Law change to make reporting of privacy breaches mandatory- Australia

Businesses with turnover of $3 million or more will be required by law to report significant privacy breaches after the government considered, but rejected, the idea of self-regulation by industry.

A new mandatory reporting regime will require breaches such as the release of personal details, tax file numbers or credit rating information to be reported to the Australian Information Commissioner and affected customers.
