Privacy experts are questioning the effectiveness of a new law that will require Canadian companies to report data breaches.

Specific regulations still must be written, but Canada’s Digital Security Act, which was passed in June by the Canadian Parliament, does not give the country’s privacy commissioner, Daniel Therrien, the power to fine companies that fail to report.
