It has become an ITSPmagazine tradition to start our RSA Conference coverage with what we call Chats On The Road To RSA Conference. We connect with conference keynote speakers, presenters, panelists and organizers to start the conversation way before anyone else does.
During these conversations, we get a sneak peek into what they are planning to share at the conference as well as a glimpse into their backgrounds and some additional insight on the topics they will discuss.
ITSPmagazine coverage, podcasts, webcasts, articles, and all our happenings during RSA Conference 2019 will be made possible by the generosity of our sponsors. We are ever so grateful for your support.
Have a story to share and want to join us for the journey? We invite you to discover the benefit of the full coverage sponsorship and let us know if you are interested in joining us for our adventures. We look forward to another exciting conference.
In today’s chat, Selena and I connect with Kyla Guru, 16-year-old founder and CEO of Bits N’ Bytes Cybersecurity Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and equipping citizens — young and old — with the cybersecurity skills needed to help prevent future cyber-attacks.
During our chat, Kyla shares with us her mission to democratize cybersecurity, her vision for what it looks like to be a leader in cybersecurity, and a sneak peek into her keynote session during RSA Conference entitled Tales of a Teenage Security Supergirl. The session is on Thursday, Mar 07 from 4:25pm to 4:45pm.
Once you hear her speak, you’ll understand why we believe we need more people like Kyla in this world; we encourage parents, aunts and uncles to share this podcast with their families and friends.
It’s time to follow Kyla’s lead and for all of us to take action, beginning with the future generation of InfoSec professionals.
Listen in to this Chats on the Road to hear more about Kyla and the amazing work she is doing.
In her keynote at RSA Conference, Kyla Guru will share her story of being a social entrepreneur in the cybersecurity industry, the challenges she has faced and what she believes should be the greater mission of all cybersecurity initiatives. Guru will use her unique perspective of going through the education system to talk about what she sees for the future of the industry, and, of course, how we can make radical change to our current state of cyber-insecurity.
About Kyla Guru
Kyla Guru is 16 years old, a junior at Deerfield High School in Deerfield, IL, by day and a security supergirl by night. The summer before her freshman year of high school, Guru discovered her unique passion for cybersecurity, fascinated by the task of protecting technologies of our future.
With this discovery, she also learned that 90 percent of cyberattacks on national infrastructure were due to human error. Combatting this vulnerability, Guru founded Bits N’ Bytes Cybersecurity, a national organization that now sustains 20+ national partnerships with school districts, corporations including Facebook and IBM, and educational platforms like Discovery Education, all in efforts to increase awareness, literacy, and fluency in privacy and cybersecurity.
